Building Community Bonds and Relationships: A Journey into Scarborough

In the heart of Scarborough, where the echoes of Remembrance Sunday ceremonies linger, I stand proud as the Detachment Commander of the Army Cadet Force.
The honour of participating in such solemn events, surrounded by dedicated cadets and fellow adult instructors, is a profound reminder of the sacrifices made in service. After the parade, a local pint, a tribute to comrades, and a moment of reflection set the stage for the narrative that brought me to this fantastic coastal town.
My journey to Scarborough has its roots in the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first lockdown, I faced the daunting prospect of losing everything. However, amidst the uncertainty, a lifeline emerged – an opportunity to reside with a close friend in Cheshire while concurrently planning my foray into residential property management.
Fate, with a touch of digital serendipity, introduced me to Sarah Corrie-Pearce, my future fiancée, during an online business meeting. Lockdown 2 saw me visiting Scarborough, affectionately known as Scabados to the locals. The charm of the town captivated me, prompting frequent visits. By March2022 the following year, I made the life-altering decision to transfer from Cheshire ACF to Yorkshire North and West, uniting forces with Sarah's expertise in property development. The synergy birthed the Coast and County Group.
Navigating the unfamiliar terrain of Scarborough and facing the challenge of limited networking opportunities, Sarah and I decided to take matters into our own hands. The result was the inception of WIN (Wealth Investment Networking), a B2B networking group designed to connect businesses and cultivate a sense of community. What began as a necessity quickly evolved into a thriving platform, paving the way for more initiatives.
The success of WIN laid the foundation for two additional networking groups. WIN Property Networking emerged to bring together local property entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration and shared insights. The birth of WIN Whitby B2B further expanded our reach and impact, reinforcing the idea that community collaboration is the cornerstone of prosperity.
These networking events, crucial for businesses seeking connections and growth, have become integral to Scarborough's thriving business landscape. What's remarkable is that all these opportunities are open and free, emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility for businesses of all sizes.
The parallels between my commitment to the welfare of cadets and our endeavours in the business community are striking. Both involve providing support, guidance, and resources to ensure growth and success. As an individual who finds solace in giving rather than receiving support, the journey in Scarborough has been transformative.
To the Scarborough business community, I extend heartfelt gratitude. Over the past two and a half years, your unwavering support and endorsements have been the driving force behind the success of the Coast and County Group. Together, we've built a community where collaboration and mutual support thrive, creating a legacy that transcends individual endeavours. The interconnectedness of businesses and the local community stands as a testament to the power of collective effort, proving that in Scarborough, unity is not just a choice but a way of life.
